Like seemingly most of New York City right now, Major Food Group’s incredibly popular red-sauce focused eatery Carbone (49 Collins Avenue) has made its way down to Miami with the debut of its latest location in the South of Fifth neighborhood in the former Upland Miami space.

The one Michelin-starred eatery first came onto the scene in New York City’s Greenwich Village in 2012, making a name for itself by serving high-end takes on classic Italian-American dishes like its famous spicy rigatoni in a vodka sauce; the Caesar salad “alla ZZ” that is prepared table-side; veal chop parmesan; and more — all of which make an appearance on the Miami menu. Dishes like octopus pizzaiolo, linguini vongole, and a porterhouse steak, all meant to be shared, round out the menu. Classic cocktails with a twist — think Manhattans, Daiquiris, and Gibsons — are brought to life by lead bartender Thomas Waugh, alongside an Italian influenced wine list selected by wine director John Slover.

The space is a funky mix of midcentury design meets Italian opulence designed by Ken Fulk with plenty of jewel tones, leather-upholstered banquettes, damask-upholstered walls, Murano sconces, and chandeliers. Throughout the space artwork chosen by gallerist Vito Schnabel by artists like Robert Nava, Julian Schnabel, Gus Van Sant, and Harmony Korine. The outdoor patio has a more laid-back feel with rattan ceiling fans, eclectic furniture, with design nods to Cuba.
